Clarksville Police warn against Redflex ticket scam

Tavia D. Green, The Leaf-Chronicle

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Redflex cameras have been a part of seven Clarksville intersections since 2008. They provide 24/7 surveillance systems at the most accident-prone intersections to improve safety.

Redflex cameras take photos of drivers who run through red lights, and a ticket is mailed to their homes.

Clarksville Police are looking for a scam artist who is posing as a representative of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and attempting to collect hundreds of dollars for fake Redflex tickets.

The Clarksville Police Department is currently investigating numerous scams involving an unknown man contacting the public and representing himself as a sergeant with the Montgomery County Sheriff Office, according to a news release from Sgt. Charles Gill.

The man tells victims that they have received a Redflex ticket and a judge with Montgomery County General Sessions Court has suspended their driver’s license and issued a bench warrant for their arrest, the release said.

The scammer tells the victim to submit a $996 money order and their license while be reinstated and the bench warrant dismissed.

The Montgomery County Sheriff Office has no association with Redflex, and Redflex will never contact you by phone. These fines are civil, so you aren’t subject to lose your license or jail time, and the fine is only $50 dollars, Gill said.

“If you are contacted by this individual, do not send them a money order,” Gill said in the release. “If you are concerned that you received a Redflex ticket and / or received one of these bogus calls, please contact the Clarksville Police Department to assist you.”

If you have any information on who this might be, please contact Crime Stoppers at 931-645-TIPS (8477)
