CLARKSVILLE — Eleven days after launching an investigation into the actions of some on the Northeast High School Football team, the Clarksville Police Department issued a news release Monday saying there would be no criminal charges.

The CPD launched an investigation Aug. 18 at the request of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

"The investigation failed to produce sufficient evidence for criminal charges," spokesman Sgt. Charles Gill stated in the news release. "At no time was a member of the coaching staff a focus of the investigation. The investigation did uncover inappropriate activities which occurred by student athletes and all this information was turned over to the school system for further internal investigation."

No names will be released in regards to the criminal investigation because they are minors, he said.

CMCSS communications director Elise Shelton told The Leaf-Chronicle Monday afternoon that its own investigation into the matter has concluded, resulting in the suspension of Eagles head coach Terry Arrington for one game. He served that suspension Saturday in Northeast's 33-16 loss to Father Ryan. Arrington has also been suspended two days without pay according to Shelton.

Two assistant coaches on Arrington's staff have been fired and one other assistant also served a one-game suspension.

Shelton said the incident took place during Northeast's summer football camp several weeks ago on school grounds. When the incident was reported to the school system, district officials contacted the police department.

"(The school system is) dealing strictly with the adults here, publicly," Shelton said. "We cannot comment on any student-athletes involved. Obviously, we have high standards in which all of our coaches are expected to meet and this was simply an issue where there was a lack of supervision."
